About the Cases
In the 1990s, the public became aware of widespread cover-ups of the sexual abuse of children by Catholic clergy members throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Ireland. A 2002 Boston Globe report revealed how pervasive this issue was in the U.S. A 2018 grand jury report in Pennsylvania contained the names of more than 300 priests who were credibly accused of abusing of more than 1,000 victims. In the months since that report was published, more than 50 U.S. dioceses, including the Archdiocese of New Orleans, have released lists of clergy members who have been credibly accused.
Catholic Church Sexual Abuse Cases in Louisiana
In November 2018, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans released the names of 59 clergy members who have been credibly accused of abuse since 1950. All of these individuals have since died or been removed from the clergy. Their names were made public and released to the New Orleans district attorney.
